Beast Boy loves Raven story by: Kami Garcia Art by: Gabriel Picolo

I’ve said it in a different graphic novel. I grew up on DC, was taught to read with Batman. So whenever the opportunity to get anything DC related crosses my path, I jump on it.

I haven’t been disappointed and this? This goes into the success pile.

Beast Boy and Raven have done the relationship dance as long as I can remember. Will they, won’t they? He counters her rough, cold, scared demenor, she can handle his goofy self.

They bring actual, literal joy to my life.

Reading this was no different. The kids are in Nashville to meet up with someone (I won’t spoil it by saying who. This is an ARC review after all. And things go a little haywire.

Raven ends up getting pickpocketed and crashing with Gar. They get attacked in an alley and he almost changes in front of her. She has nightmares about Trigon leaving him worried about her. Their chemistry, like always, is amazing.

Then we meet Ravens cousin/foster sister max and Damien Wayne. Max followed Raven because she wanted to help but Raven didn’t want her in danger and Damien is there to meet [redacted] as well.

And guess what?

He’s BROWN.

Now, that might not be a big deal to a lot of people but Damien isn’t white. And whenever he’s depicted as such when his mother and grandfather are brown, it’s infuriating. He’s gotta have a least a little melanin.

I was absolutely in love with his chemistry with Max. And with Max in general, she a fantastic character.

The art was amazing. I loved every panel. I didn’t see anything jarring or any art that just didn’t seem to fit. Every bit of it added to the story and I truly enjoyed reading it.

I’m giving this a five (5) star rating.

This comes of 9/28/2021 so grab a copy!

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
