The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin

Hi everyone, I hope you’re all doing well and crushing any yearly writing goals you may have.

I recently finished The Fifth Season and wow. That’s a book. For one, I read it digitally and after seeing how thick it is and how thick the omnibus of all three is, I’m glad. I don’t know if I’ve got anywhere else I can put a book that big.

It’s such a good book. A world where humans can sense earthquakes and even cause them, the way the world is shaped–I am speechless at how amazing it is.

N.K. Jemisin is an incredible worldbuilder. I follow her masterclass and she really is a Queen when it comes to worldbuilding and storytelling.

The story has some dark moments that I wasn’t prepared for. A spoiler warning for that but there is a boy is raped by a high ranking teacher at what equates to a school for the children that can cause quakes.

I didn’t realize as I was reading that it was jumping through time. It was so seamlessly woven that when I realized it I audibly gasped because of it.

I feel like anything I’m going to say is going to be a spoiler. It’s such a good book. It’s such a good story and wildly amazing world.
